My name is Benoît Vermeerbergen.

My story begins on 01.04.1962 in Villers-Semeuse. Born in France under "SOUS X", adopted a few months later in Belgium.

I found out about my adoption when I was only six years old.

My teenage years were full of questions about my origins - specifically about my biological mother.

I very consciously looked for a job that could help me in this quest. I started working for the Government at the Population Service Desk. This position learned me a lot about the mysterious administrative world and made me evolve to the genealogist that I am today.

I completely immersed myself in the world of genealogy & adoption. Not only to find my own biological mother, but also to help others in their search for the truth. After 20 years of intensive searching, it all became a bit too much for me. That's when I decided to take some distance of it all and move abroad. But it became clear very quickly that even there, my passion in life was to help others and do genealogical research.

Helping people discover their adoption story and now-and-again reuniting family is extremely rewarind. In 2018 I started my own company "Genealogical Research". On freelance basis I work, amongst others, for Genealogy Coutot-Roehrig - Decuyper, Record Click (USA), notaries, sollicitors and court.

Besides this I am also very involved with multiple adoption related organisations

I found my biological mother in 2019.

Adoption

Specialisation

SOUS X - domestic adoption

An anonymous birth - it's a very bizarre feeling when all you can see on your birthcertificate are X's, in stead of your mother's and father's name.

During the French Revolution anonymous birth became legal in France. Safe spaces were created for women who wanted to give birth anonymously to prevent illegal child trafficking and infanticide.

Until today it is legally impossible to giver birth anonymously or discretely in Belgium. As of 2000 we do have an offical foundling hatch.

Because of my own adoption I very intensively searched for my own biological parents. And it's this drive that I had to share with others because I know exactly how it feels!

Through the years I worked together with different adoption related organisations and participated in numerous adoption related projects.

Freelance researcher, trilingual Dutch*, Spanish, English for Decuyper Genealogie (Coutot-Roehrig)

Meaning - hereditary or not - looking for your ancestors.

To get started, data is needed from ancestors born, preferably, more than 100 years ago. This is due to regulations (GDPR / AVG) in Belgium.

Genealogical research is always different - it is tailored to the question being asked. Therefore, it is not possible to immediately determine a total price for a research. The nature, technicality, complexity, distance, size, etc of the research determines the price.
